Is Superman headed to Canada?

With “Stargate Universe” and “Smallville” coming to and end, there’s soon gonna be a lot of kanuck’s beseeching work. But if Warner’s “The Man of Steel” (“Superman” Reboot 2) ends up shooting in Canada, there’ll be less of a need to worry – you can only imagine how many electricians, grips, gaffers, assistants, costume and props workerbees, extras and others will be needed for the film. T-Bone Steak for everyone.

It was revealed earlier today that the new Superhero movie, set to be directed by Zack Snyder, was likely headed to Vancouver. The B.C Film Commission’s Susan Broome says she can say for sure that that’s going to happen.

“I haven’t had any confirmation that Superman is green-lit for Vancouver in 2011”, Broome tells The Vancouver Sun. “We do know that Zack Snyder had a really great experience here on ‘The Watchmen’ and ‘Sucker Punch’, and we’re hopeful the experience he had in the past will lead to new productions.”

Peter Leitch of Mammoth and North Shore Studios says,“It’s difficult to talk about movies like that specifically, because we never know 100-per-cent if they’re coming here. We’re pretty comfortable that Zack Snyder’s [next] movie is coming here, but there are factors in all these productions which delay them, or for whatever reason they change their mind and do something differently…until they’re on the ground here and working and we know they’re here, there’s no certainty. It gets a little bit awkward when we talk about specific projects like that.”

I’m assuming, what with the healthy Aussie dollar, that Australia – which played home to 2006’s “Superman Returns” – was automatically out-of-the-running this time.

“Superman : The Man of Steel” is in theaters 2012.
