Might Owen’s popularity Spike with Oldboy role?

Clive Owen may dig into Colin Firth’s sloppy seconds.

The “Killer Elite” star has been offered a part Firth just passed on, that of the villain in Spike Lee’s “Oldboy”, according to Twitch.

Firth, seemingly not keen on tarnishing that Mr. Right image by wearing the guise of a nasty pastie, knocked back the chance to play against type opposite Josh Brolin in the remake of the Asian fave. Interestingly enough, Firth was the second choice for the role anyway; Christian Bale received first dibs.

Owen, who seems far less picky these days (“Killer Elite”, “The International” and “Trust” all went down like lead balloons at the box office – and with audiences), has been offered the part of the kidnapper. We await his answer anxiously.

Lee had worked with Owen on “The Inside Man”; they had planned to reunite on a sequel to that particular film before it didn’t come to fruition.
