Diane Kruger To Join The Host

Diane Kruger, the fine-looking blonde from the “National Treasure” films and swords n’sandals epic “Troy”, is set to play ‘The Seeker’ in the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host”, according to Deadline.com.

“The Host” tells the story of an alien race known as “souls” who have infiltrated Earth and taken over the human race by implanting themselves into people’s brains.

Melanie Stryder, the story’s protagonist, is a former rebel soldier who has been captured and implanted by a soul named Wanderer – though most people’s consciousnesses eventually disappear, Melanie’s refuses to, culminating in a cross-country journey to find Melanie’s brother and boyfriend.

One of the story’s main antagonists, “The Seeker” is responsible for ensuring that Wanderer is successfully able to take over her host body, but eventually is forced to try and track Melanie and Wanderer down in an attempt to eradicate the rebel movement.

Although Kruger was under consideration for a lead role in Universal Pictures’ “Oblivion”, she withdrew in order to commit to “The Host”.

While “The Host” was planned as a trilogy – with upcoming books speculatively titled as “The Soul” and “The Seeker” – the film will be based on the first and only novel so far.
“The Host” is planned for a March 29, 2013 release date.
