The Weinstein Company sued Relativity back in April 2011 over distribution rights to a remake of “The Crow”. According to Bob and Harvey, who distributed the previous “Crow” movies, they had the exclusive rights in terms of releasing the film; Relativity said they’d didn’t and were simply trying to intimidate them – which is something they do. Whatever the case, it’s now been worked out; both studios have settled out of court and will work on the film together.
“The lawsuit between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company concerning THE CROW has been amicably settled out of court, and the parties will continue to work on the film together as planned. In addition, Relativity Media has dismissed all of its claims against The Weinstein Company for any wrongdoing regarding the release and distribution of NINE, and The Weinstein Company has dismissed all of its claims against Relativity Media.”
Considering the remake of “The Crow” has been on-and-off for years now – it recently also lost Bradley Cooper, who was going to play the lead role – and there’s been no suggestion that it’s happening anytime soon, I don’t know if this whole distribution rights argument isn’t void. Time is money… don’t you remember, Weinstein’s?
