Chloe Moretz Confirmed for Carrie Remake

Just yesterday, several actresses were in the running for the remake of the 1976 film “Carrie”. Directed by Brian De Palma, the film starred Sissy Spacek and followed the story of a mousy girl named Carrie White who uses her telekinetic powers after being pushed too far on prom night and enduring the abuse of her nightmarish religious fanatic mother. Piper Laurie played her mother and the film also had a small role by John Travolta. Nancy Allen, Amy Irving, Betty Buckley and William Katt also starred in the ’76 film.

Haley Bennett was the other actress vying for the role in the remake, with other actress who passed up on the role including Dakota Fanning, Emily Browning and Lily Collins.

According to Deadline, Moretz was made a formal offer by MGM, Screen Gems and director Kim Peirce after having met with Pierce just this weekend and got the job immediately.

Moretz took to her Twitter account and confirmed the deal by tweeting the good news:

“Never been so happy in my life!” Moretz tweeted. “Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!”

As for who is up for the role of Carrie’s mad momma? Director Kimberly Peirce is said to be eyeing Jodie Foster or Julianne Moore. Moretz will next be seen in Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows”.
