The Best Marigold Hotel to re-open it’s doors for sequel

One of the most profitable films of the year, “The Best Marigold Hotel” – lovely little film too, with great performances from the likes of Dame Judi Dench and Tom Wilkinson – could get a sequel, if the studio brass have their heads switched to ‘on’.

According to Vulture, the film’s screenwriter Ol Parker will soon hand over a draft of a script sequel to Fox Searchlight, in the hope they see promise in returning to rent another room at the Marigold. The cast of the original film, which also includes “The Newsroom” actor Dev Patel, have shown interest in returning.

The news on “Best Marigold 2” surfaced in a piece about the rise in popularity of film’s targeting the over 50’s (the baby-boomers) crowd. Seems there’s quite a few big movies on the way that are thinking of our parents and grandparents, including “Red 2” with Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis; “Last Vegas” with Michael Douglas and Robert De Niro; “Grudge Match” with Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro; and “Quartet”, directed by actor turned filmmaker Dustin Hoffman.
