Mendelsohn joins Chandler in new Netflix series

Aussie lad Ben Mendelsohn continues to smack them out of the park.

The “Place Beyond the Pines” star will co-star with already-announced Kyle Chandler in Netflix’s newly-announced psychological thriller series from “Damages” creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler and Sony Pictures TV.

The 13-episode series marks Mendlesohn’s return to series TV. The actor, though still a relative unknown in the states, is a big-time TV fixture in his native Oz where he’s starred in such series as “Love My Way” and “Tangled”.

Says Deadline :

the untitled series centers on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when the black sheep oldest brother, Danny (Mendesohn), returns home. Chandler, who in real life is four years older than Aussie Mendelsohn, plays the married middle brother who takes care of the family.

Filming kicks off in March in the lush Florida keys.

Mendelsohn has done so bloody well in recent years – and I guess he can attribute some of that success to “Animal Kingdom”, since it’s seemingly landed every other [Aussie] castmember in it lucrative stateside TV and film gigs. I recall ‘Mendo’ hitting Hollywood in the early ’90s to see if he could crack it there – he auditioned for the ‘Tooth Fairy’ part in Brett Ratner’s “Red Dragon” – but had no luck, and returned home with the assumption that he wasn’t wanted, so would stick to making local fare. But what a difference a decade, some silver streaks, and a fantastic indy movie like “Animal Kingdom” makes!
