After numerous stops and starts, Warner’s “Tarzan” reboot is officially on with Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie and Christoph Waltz set to star.
The new 3D take on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ legendary character will hit screens July 1, 2016.
“True Blood” star Skarsgard is hthe man who was orphaned as a baby and raised in the jungle, later to return to the urban jungle of London. The film also stars Oscar® nominee Samuel L. Jackson (“Pulp Fiction”); Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), as Jane Porter, who becomes the love of Tarzan’s life; and two-time Academy Award® winner Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained”).
David Yates, director of the last four “Harry Potter” movies, is helming; “Ocean’s Eleven” producer Jerry Weintraub is producing together with David Barron and Alan Riche.

Just a few short years ago Billy Bob Thornton was set to headline a Coen Bros’ version of “Tarzan”. Though Yates’s take is definitely the safer, surer bet, one can’t deny the earlier take might have been a very interesting, and quite possibly brilliant flick.
