Star Trek star downunder for Rather biopic

Eternally resourceful and loyal Donaldson-go-to-guy Bruce Greenwood (“Star Trek”, “Thirteen Days”) has joined the cast of James Vanderbilt’s Dan Rather flick “Truth”, says THR.

Robert Redford plays the veteran CBS newsman in the film, an adaptation of the memoir by Mary Mapes. Cate Blanchett plays Maples, Rather’s producer. Greenwood will play Andrew Heyward, president of CBS News, the man who ultimately fires Mapes.

The film sees Greenwood return to Australia – where the film is currently lensing – where he shot “Mao’s Last Dancer”.

The movie is based on Mapes’ memoir Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power. It tells of the firestorm that erupted in September of 2004 after Rather reported that George W. Bush had received special treatment while serving in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War. After it came to light that some documents were suspected to be forgeries, Rather’s reputation was badly damaged and Mapes was fired.

The all-star support cast includes Dennis Quaid, Topher Grace, Elizabeth Moss, and John Benjamin Hickey.

Greenwood recently wrapped the supernatural action movie “Spectral”.
