Shawn Levy parachutes off Minecraft

Either because he couldn’t convince the studio that Owen Wilson was the right man for the lead role, or he wanted to replace the furious with fluff (tonally speaking), “Night at the Museum” helmer Shawn Levy has exited his post as director of Warner’s “Minecraft” movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker – largely known for popcorn fare like “The Internship” and “Cheaper by the Dozen” – didn’t see eye to eye with the studio on the project.

The studio had acquired the rights to the popular video game in February, soon tapping “Justice League : Mortal” scribes Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney to write the screenplay.

Levy’s vision was apparently quite different to the one the studio had in mind.

The project pushes forward though, with WB hot on the search for a new director.

Meanwhile, Levy’s “Night at the Museum 3 : Who Gives a Shit?” opens later this month.
