A HBO period drama from “Orange is the new Black” creator Kenji Johan is a go, with Gus Van Sant set to direct the pilot episode.
“New World”, co-written by Kohan, Bruce Miller, and Tracy Miller, is described as ”a provocative period drama that explores the circumstances around one of the most compelling chapters in American history where intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria” per Deadline.
That doesn’t tell us much, but it’s believed the show fixes on the Salem Witch Trials in 17th century New England.
Van Sant, who will also executive produce, will begin lensing the pilot in Boston, Massachusetts this spring.
