Big Hero 6 is 2014’s biggest animated feature

“Big Hero 6” has become the highest grossing animated release of 2014.

The Academy Award winner surpassed $620 million globally making it 2014’s biggest animated release worldwide.

$221 million came from within the US while internationally it took $400 million.

In taking the top spot, Disney’s “Big Hero 6” knocks off DreamWorks Animation’s “How To Train Your Dragon 2”.

The film is also Walt Disney Animation Studios’ third biggest release globally of all time, behind “Frozen” and “The Lion King”, and its the studio’s third biggest US release ever.

Around the globe, “Big Hero 6” is the biggest animated release of all time in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia. In Japan it is the second-highest grossing Disney animated film and in Russia and Korea it boasts the second-biggest Disney or Pixar animated release.

The film follows Baymax, a plus-sized inflatable robot, and boy prodigy Hiro Hamada as they team up with a group of friends to form a band of high-tech heroes.
