Sacha Baron Cohen is Freddie Mercury

Sacha Baron Cohen will star as Freddie Mercury in an upcoming Queen biopic.

According to The Daily Mail, the band’s manager Jim Beach announced that the British actor will produce, write, direct and star in the film

“You have probably followed the saga of the famous Queen-Freddie Mercury biopic which has been developing in Hollywood for the last seven years,” Beach told the audience at Thursday night’s Artist & Management Awards. “An important breakthrough is that we have now managed to persuade Sacha Baron Cohen to write, produce and direct this movie, and he has also agreed to star.”

Cohen was attached to the biopic a few years ago, however he exited the project in 2013, supposedly due to ‘creative differences’ with surviving band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

At the time, May said the actor’s “presence in the movie would be very distracting”.

None-the-less, it now looks like Cohen is back in, trading the mankini for the mic.

Is Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine for the ‘last time’?
