Why is Ryan Phillippe meeting with Marvel?

While speaking to Howard Stern, Ryan Phillippe (“Crash”, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”) let slip that he’ll soon be talking to Marvel about a Netflix series.

The internet – being the internet, of course – was quick to jump on the post, going so far as to suggest the actor is playing the title role in Netflix’s “Iron Fist” series.

Phillippe isn’t refuting that claim, but has taken to Twitter to clarify his statement.

“I have no real marvel news other than an upcoming meeting,” he writes. “Sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. there is no story there.”

Obviously, there is a story there – Phillippe is meeting with Marvel about a Netflix series, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s for the role of Iron Fist. Maybe it’s for the villain of that series? Or maybe a rogue in one of the other series – like “Luke Cage”?2

Phillippe recently starred on the series “Secrets & Lies”.

“Iron Fist” is one of four recently-announced comic book series’ Marvel is doing with Netflix; the first, “Daredevil – released earlier this month – has been a ratings hit for the streamer.
