Black Panther frontrunner nixes directing offer

Though said to be Marvel’s pick for the job, filmmaker Ava DuVernay says she’s passed on helming superhero flick “Black Panther”.

In an interview with Essence Magazine, the filmmaker said, “I think I’ll just say we had different ideas about what the story would be. Marvel has a certain way of doing things, and I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me.”

DuVernay met with the film’s cast – including Chadwick Boseman, who is set to play lead T’Challa – and crew, including the writers, to discuss the possibility but ultimately decided not to pursue the job.

“I loved meeting Chadwick and the writers and all the Marvel execs,” said DuVernay. “In the end, it comes down to story and we just didn’t see eye to eye. Better for me to realize that now than cite creative differences later.”

Guess Marvel will have to settle for their second choice, whoever it may be?
