Michael B. Jordan to star in Just Mercy adaptation

arrives at the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on October 21, 2013 in Beverly Hills, California.

Broad Green Pictures has acquired the rights to Bryan Stevenson’s memoir “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption”.

Michael B. Jordan is set to star with Destin Cretton at the helm.

The book centres on Stevenson when he was a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative – a legal practice dedicated to defending the poor, the wrongly condemned and women and children.

According to Variety, other stars such as Will Smith and Denzel Washington have also shown interest in joining the cast in other roles.

Cretton and Andrew Lanham are adapting the book which recently won the 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction from the American Library Association. It’s also been named one of the best books of the year by publications such as the New York Times, the Washington Post and Time magazine.

Gil Netter is producing with Arthur Spector, Jordan and Stevenson exec producing.
