Ghostbusters spin-off to link to the original movies!

A few days back screenwriter Drew Pearce mentioned that he’s taken a stab at writing a “Ghostbusters” movie that would put the blokes – possibly a mix of new recruits and some of the old team by the sounds of it – at the forefront of a haunted populace again.

The “Iron Man 3” scribe has been collaborating with Joe and Anthony Russo, the “Captain America” directors, who’ll – if it gets the greenlight from Sony – produce and likely helm the movie. This is the same project Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt have been linked to.

Speaking to MTV, Pearce said : “I’ve finished on that in the last couple of weeks. Obviously it’s top secret, but there’s a gigantic bold idea that i came up with, and the Russo Brothers – who did Captain America: The WInter Soldier and are doing Civil War at the moment – and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it. Obviously I cannot tell you what it is, but hopefully in one years time you’ll know”

Though Pratt has denied involvement, Pearce says Sony are zeroing in on Tatum and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” actor to star.

“Thats definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project. Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”

There’s a also a fair chance the script features appearances from some of the original Ghostbusters. Unlike Paul Feig’s upcoming “Ghostbusters” movie, Pearce says his script is set in the same world as the ’80s movies.

“My personal inclination is to try and make everything occur in the same Ghostbusters Universe, because i feel, as a fan, thats what I would want. Here in New York, you just wanna tie it all together. Whether that happens or not we’ll see, but i’ve certainly given them the tools to do that, i hope.”
