Jack Ryan : TV Character

A TV series based on Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character – that CIA analyst turned agent at the center of such books as “The Hunt for Red October” and “Sum of All Fears’, among others – is out for pitches, according to Deadline.

A number of networks are chasing the series, the first Ryan vehicle since the 2014 film “Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit”.

The series hails from “Lost” twosome Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount TV. Like that most recent movie, the series won’t be strictly based on the books but will instead be a “new contemporary take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative”.

There have been five Jack Ryan movies – “The Hunt for Red October”, “Patriot Games”, “Clear and Present Danger”, “The Sum of All Fears” and the abovesaid “Jack Ryan”. Alec Baldwin played the role of Ryan in the 1990 original, while Harrison Ford took over the role for the next two films, and Ben Affleck and Chris Pine, respectively, for the two most recent films.

No doubt the disappointing performance of “Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit”, directed by and co-starring Kenneth Branagh, attributed to the character making a move towards the small screen.
