Leonardo DiCaprio producing Volkswagen scandal film

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way are set to produce Paramount’s project about the Volkswagen emissions-cheating scandal.

The film will be based on Jack Ewing’s upcoming book about the scandal in which the German car company installed illegal software in their clean diesel cars so that standards emissions were met only when the car was undergoing emissions testing.

Emissions rates were up to 40 times higher when the was driving in normal conditions.

The scandal led to the resignation of CEO Martin Winterkorn and the company is now facing up to $18 billion in fines from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
