Waterston lands Alien lead

Up-and-comer Katherine Waterston (“Inherent Vice”, “Steve Jobs”) has landed the female role in “Prometheus” sequel, “Alien : Covenant”.

With Noomi Rapace believed to be only reprising her role from the 2012 film for a few scenes here and there, director Ridley Scott needed to find a new front woman to carry the brand.

According to Deadline, Waterston plays a character named Daniels in the film, believed to be the first of a trilogy of films that will connect “Prometheus” with Scott’s 1979 classic “Alien”.

Michael Fassbender reprises his role as David in a scenario that sees the the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet, discovering what they believe is an uncharted paradise. But in fact it’s a dark, dangerous world whose the only inhabitant is the former, the “synthetic” and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Waterston, next in “Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them”, heads down under with Fassbender shortly to shoot “Covenant”.
