A TV drama series based on DC character Black Lightning is in the works from Warner Bros TV, Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions.
According to Deadline, “Black Lightning” centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.
Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil wrote the series and will exec produce with Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
The character, one of DC’s first major African American heroes, was created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden and debuted in 1977.
