Cagney & Lacey reboot sets leads

Just last week, it was announced that Sarah Drew would be exiting “Grey’s Anatomy” following the finish of the 14th season, but the actor has already found her next gig. Drew is cast as Cagney, joining Michelle Hurd as Lacey in the upcoming reboot for CBS.

The show is a reboot of the 80s police series, and will follow the two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe. It’s been written by Bridget Carpenter and directed by Rosemary Rodriguez (via Deadline).

Drew will play LAPD Detective Cagney, Lacey’s nimble and easygoing partner and protégée. Hurd’s Lacey is athletic, polished, a former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she’s the more experienced partner.

The original “Cagney & Lacey” ran for seven series on CBS and featured Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless in the title roles.
