Casey Affleck, Christian Bale and Zoe Saldana Get Out of the Furnace

Sounds like one great film with a heck of a cast. Variety is reporting that Zoe Saldana is set to join Christian Bale and Casey Affleck in Scott Cooper’s “Out of the Furnace” for Relativity Media.

Cooper, who wrote, directed and produced 2009’s “Crazy Heart”, will see “Out of the Furnace” as a gritty throwback to 1970s movies that’s originally based on Brad Ingelsby’s script “The Low Dweller,” which has since been significantly revised by Cooper. “Furnace” follows an ex-con (Bale) who must choose between his newfound freedom and avenging the death of his younger brother (Affleck).

Saldana is in talks to play Bale’s ex-wife, a waitress now married to the town sheriff while Robert Duvall is expected to play Bale’s uncle.

Deadline reports that Casey Affleck meanwhile is the front-runner to play the role of the younger brother.

Relativity is producing with Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, as well as Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment. Producers are aiming for a late spring start, though Relativity has not yet greenlit the pic or closed deals with any actors.
