TriStar has nabbed rights to Aimee Molloy’s thriller novel “The Perfect Mother” and has set Kerry Washington to star.

According to Deadline, the novel revolves around a Brooklyn group called May Mothers, a group of moms who meet up to socialize and relish a couple hours away from their babies. The evening takes a tragic turn when Winnie, the single mother of the group, learns that her 6-week-old son, Midas, has been abducted from his crib. Over the course of 13 days, three new moms go to increasingly desperate lengths to find Midas alive. In the process, damaging secrets are revealed, marriages are tested, and friendships are created and destroyed.

 

 

Jacob Tremblay will join Kit Harington, Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon and Kathy Bates in “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan”.

Production is currently underway on the drama which is being directed by Xavier Dolan.

Set in the early 2000s, Donovan centers on an adult American TV star (Harington) and his correspondence with a young actor-to-be (Tremblay) living with his mother (Portman) in England. Their lives take dramatic turns when the existence of their pen pal relationship is publicly exposed, eliciting the most ill-founded assumptions, and sending Donovan into a tailspin. The movie is set in two time periods, with the other being a decade later, when the young actor recollects his relationship with his past idol over the course of an interview (via THR).

 

 

Mia Wasikowska and Christopher Abbott are starring in Nicolas Pesce’s psychological thriller “Piercing”, which has just wrapped production.

“Piercing” is based on Ryu Murakami’s 1994 novel of the same name. Abbott plays a man who kisses his wife and baby goodbye, seemingly headed away on business, with a plan to  check into a hotel, call an escort service and kill an unsuspecting prostitute. His plan is thwarted by the alluring and mysterious call girl — played by Wasikowska — who arrives at his room, leading to a pulsating game of cat-and-mouse (via Variety).

Laia Costa, Maria Dizzia, Wendell Pierce and Marin Ireland are also in the cast.

 

 

Eva Green and Gemma Arterton will play real-life lovers Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West (respectively) in Chanya Button’s “Vita & Virginia”, reports THR.

The film is based on the true story of the love affair and friendship between literary icon Woolf and author Sackville-West, as recorded in their various letters and diary entries.

Virginia Stephen married Leonard Woolf in 1912, and then met socialite and author Vita Sackville-West, wife of Harold Nicolson, in 1922. They began a sexual relationship that lasted nearly a decade. When their affair ended, they remained friends until Woolf’s death in 1941.

Eileen Atkins wrote the script based on her own play.

 

 

Aubrey Plaza, Craig Robinson, Emile Hirsch, Jemaine Clement and Matt Berry are set to star in “An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn”.

The story follows Lulu Danger, whose unsatisfying marriage takes a fortunate turn for the worse when a mysterious man from her past comes to town to perform a mysterious event called An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn; For One Magical Night Only (via THR).

Jim Hosking is directing from a script he wrote with David Wike. Production is currently underway in California.

 

 

Elizabeth Debicki is in talks to join Viola Davis, Cynthia Erivo and Andre Holland in director Steve McQueen’s heist thriller “Widows”.

Gillian Flynn will write the script with McQueen based on the 1983 British miniseries of the same name. The story follows four armed robbers who are killed in a failed heist attempt, leaving their widows to finish the job. Debicki would play one of the widows (via Variety).

 

 

Thekla Reuten has joined Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts and Jeremy Irons in Fox’s spy thriller “Red Sparrow”.

Based on Jason Matthews’ novel, the story follows a Russian intelligence officer (Lawrence) who is ordered against her will to become a “Sparrow,” a trained seductress, and to operate against a young CIA agent who handles the agency’s most important Russian mole (via Variety).

Production is underway with Francis Lawrence directing, for a November 10 release.
