Force Awakens : #1 Highest-Grossing Domestic Film Of All Time!

There’s a party on Endor tonight as Disney – and the planet’s furry inhabitants, of course – celebrates another milestone in “The Force Awakens”‘s box-office performance. The film is now officially… the highest-grossing domestic film of all time. Yep, it kicked Sam Worthington’s blue butt from his computer-generated perch.

“Star Wars : The Force Awakens”, released in December, today zoomed past the sum made by previous title holder “Avatar” – which made $760 million in it’s run.

What’s working for “The Force Awakens”, as opposed to most other films, is that people are going back to see it twice, three times. Rumour on the InterWebs is that Disney may attach a new trailer for their end-of-year spin-off flick “Rogue One : A Star Wars Story” to all prints of the former shortly, giving audiences another reason -fourth time’s the charm, right? – into seeing BB-8.

While “The Force Awakens” hasn’t bet the global box office fig of “Avatar” – $1.54 billion – it’s in with a good shot to, especially when considering the movie hasn’t even opened in movie-loving China yet (it unspools January 9). Currently, the global box office champs of all time are “Avatar” in first place and “Titanic” in second place – “Force Awakens” will overtake the latter, no problem, it’ll be interesting to see if it can overrun Jim Cameron’s second film in the list too.

Now, who’s coming to see “The Force Awakens” with me? (Yes.. again).
