Joss Whedon out of Batgirl, who will take over?

Joss Whedon has left the bat cave, with the director telling The Hollywood Reporter he just didn’t have a story for the upcoming “Batgirl” flick. Whedon has been attached to the project for about a year to write and direct, but has bowed out, leaving it up to someone else to come up with something amazing.

His full statement reads:

“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff [Johns] and Toby [Emmerich] and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I…uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed?'”

Admittedly it is a tough gig, with the success of “Wonder Woman” giving great importance to another female hero in the limelight. Of course now comes the part where a new director is sought out, and a bunch of female names are already being thrown in the ring. Only time will tell.

Gray’s Robert the Bruce biopic heats up!
