Live-action X-Men series headed to TV!

With the last cinematic jaunt for the tight-clothed heroes a little pissweak, to say the least, no surprise Fox are looking to Television (it’s where it’s all at, right!?) to breathe life into the dipping “X-Men” franchise.

Fox have greenlit a pilot for a new series from Matt Nix and Marvel that,by the sounds of it, won’t fix on the usual suspects but a couple of new characters who go on the run from a hostile government, ultimately teaming with a band of underground mutants. While it’s likely some familiar faces might pop up here and there, the mostly likely ‘crossover’ character from the films and the new series would seemingly be William Stryker.

Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”) is writing the pilot and executive producing alongside “X-Men” vets Lauren Schuler Donner, Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg Fact that Donner, Singer and Kinberg are involved suggests there’ll be some crosspolinating with storylines and characters between big and small screens.

Initially, Fox were looking at doing an “X-Men” series set in the Hellfire club – seen in “X-Men : First Class”. The project, overseen by Evan Katz and Manny Coco, was scrapped after the duo went to work on the new “24” series.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” Fox Entertainment president David Madden said in a statement. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

Said Jonathan Davis, president of creative affairs at 20th: “Working with Marvel on a television series for Fox has been a professional dream for our head of development, Michael Thorn, and all of us at the studio. Matt, Lauren, Bryan, Simon, Jeph and Jim are a powerhouse team of creative artists, and we can’t wait to get started on what will easily be one of this development season’s most exciting new projects.”
