So the next X-Men is a remake of X-Men : The Last Stand, then!?

As any cat owner knows, even the cheapest rug can cover up a dark skidmark.

Hot on the heels of news that Fox might be rejigging the “X-Men” franchise, and basically getting away from whatever Bryan Singer was intending to do with the next movies, reports a whisper that the Dark Phoenix storyline might make a return in the next movie. That storyline, though french-kiss tasty in the comics, was wasted in Brett Ratner’s ill-fated “X-Men : The Last Stand” (2006). Famke Janssen, who played the Dark Phoenix herself, Jean Grey, was rather terrific but the character’s arc in the movie was almost non-existent – going from 0 to 100 without even the slightest gear change. It’s almost as if the scribes chucked in the Dark Phoenix storyline into that movie as an afterthought.

Reiterating last week’s report that that the next “X-Men” movie won’t be a complete reboot of the series, just a soft reboot (meaning they’ll keep most of the actors just go for a different story and tone than previous films), Latino Review says Sophie Turner, the flaxen-haired youngster who played young Jean Grey in “X-Men : Apocalypse”, would be back to reprise the role.

Could be good! It’s an awesome storyline from the “X-Men” comics, and we didn’t get to see nearly enough of it in Ratner’s version, so here’s hoping a good celluloid incarnation of it comes to be.

Watch this space. No, not that hard.. you’ll get square eyes.
