Original Revenge of the Jedi trailer unearthed by AMPAS!

Anyone with a liking for “Star Wars” will recall that, shortly before the film’s release in 1983, George Lucas decided to abruptly retitle the third film in the series “Revenge of the Jedi” to the film we know as “Return of the Jedi”.

Reason being, Lucas realized that vengeance isn’t something a Jedi would likely chase. They’re too moral, you see.

Unfortunately for Twentieth Century Fox, and countless exhibitors, a horde of marketing material had already been produced – and distributed – for “Revenge of the Jedi”, meaning those posters and trailers (brandishing the original title) were either destroyed or quickly snapped up by collectors.

That rarely seen trailer was unearthed [again] this week by AMPAS. It’s a fun bit of what-couldve-been for all film geeks1

Meantime, a poster advertising the upcoming “Star Wars Celebration Europe” has been released – and, it goes without saying, it’s rather beautiful.
