Live-action Star Wars series would’ve been about The Emperor!

Remember that live-action “Star Wars” TV series “Star Wars Underworld”, Lucasfilm were developing when George Lucas was still at the cockpit of the Falcon? Apparently it was the beard’s answer to “Breaking Bad” – though, I’m guessing, without the grit, compel or shiny dialogue.

Speaking to Venturebeat— about the project, which Lucasfilm scrapped when Lucas sold the company to Disney and Kathleen Kennedy became head decision maker, “God of War” video game director Cory Barlog said the show would’ve fixed on The Emperor – before he turned into the evil son-of-a-bitch we knew from the prequels.

“I was allowed to go up to the ranch and read the scripts for the [canceled live-action Star Wars] TV show. It was the most mind-blowing thing I’d ever experienced. I cared about the Emperor. They made the Emperor a sympathetic figure who was wronged by this f–king heartless woman. She’s this hardcore gangster, and she just totally destroyed him as a person. I almost cried while reading this. This is the Emperor, the lightning out of the fingers Emperor. That’s something magical. The writers who worked on that, guys from The Shield and 24, these were excellent writers.”

Barlog had been working on the “Star Wars : 1313” video game, which the newly brass at Lucasfilm also canned. Apparently Kennedy plans to look into using the ideas in both the series and game later on.
