Star Wars Episode 7 headlined by a Babe.. in Britain

The one doing the stormstropper-slaying in the next “Star Wars” movie will wear a bra (well, that’s arguable I suppose, considering what Carrie Fisher got away with back in the day) and likely spend her time off-set sipping tea – as only the Brit’s can make it.

In addition to Kennedyfilm, erm, Lucasfilm announcing a UK Shoot for “Star Wars Episode VII”, a strong rumour has hit the w’s suggesting – and I’ve heard it before, so there must be something to it – that the female lead in the new J.J Abrams-directed “Return of the Jedi” sequel will be a young woman. Now that could either be a new character, or the offspring of one of the existing characters (Han and Leia’s daughter is a good possibility), or Mon Mothma (c’mon! You know you like that!).

Variety’s Jeff Sneider dropped the ‘female lead’ news on Twitter, while Lucasfilm themselves revealed the UK shoot news.

“We’ve devoted serious time and attention to revisiting the origins of Star Wars as inspiration for our process on the new movie, and I’m thrilled that returning to the UK for production and utilizing the incredible talent there can be a part of that,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. “Speaking from my own longstanding connection to the UK with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and recently War Horse, it’s very exciting to be heading back.”

Earlier this year, representatives from Lucasfilm met with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne, in London to establish an agreement to produce Star Wars in the U.K. “I am delighted that Star Wars is coming back to Britain. Today’s announcement that the next Star Wars film will be shot and produced in the UK is great news for fans and our creative industries,” Osborne said today.

This ”Chancellor of the Exchequer” sounds a bit suss, Kathleen… keep an eye on him.
