Finally, a movie worth selling kisses at a carnival for (not all of us have cashed-up momma’s and poppa’s ready to open their wallets every time one of their children wants to see a movie, you know?! – “Emily the Strange”.
A biopic on that quiet, moody emo girl* you sat next to in Year 11 geography class is [finally] in the works.
Amazon Studios, who have dived in head-first into this movie-making stuff in recent times, would produce.
While there was talk of a live-action version a couple of years back (with the now-overexposed Chloe Moretz in the lead), this new version is said to be fully toon.
Based on the Dark Horse comic line, “Emily the Strange” tells of a darkly-dressed punk girl, big on cats, who has been the face of mucho merchandise since her creation in 2005.
Creator Robert Reger will produce the film – and a few months later will likely buy that eight-story mansion he’s had his eye on since Amazon approached him with the idea.
It’s actually kinda surprising that “Emily” hasn’t had her own movie yet – what with everything else at your local Zing store (from Pokemon to Smurfs, My Little Pony & Monster High) all cinemaized.
* Not to be confused with the writer of this article whose moodiness, love of collecting cat trinkets, self-indulgent crushes on older men, past obsession with skateboarders, and adoration of dark jewellery are totally not related to her emoness.
