It feels like one yesterday we reporting on a new “Wonder Woman” TV series. Remember? David E.Kelley (“Ally McBeal”) was behind it, and every up-and-coming actress in town was vying for the title role – with Adrianne Palicki ultimately nabbing it? I still remember that first image of Palicki in the outfit, and the mixed responses the picture garnered.
You might also recall hearing that, after viewing the so-so pilot (later released online), NBC decided not to go ahead with the show. So that was that. No Wonder Woman.
The CW, the former home of “Smallville” and soon, “Arrow”, thinks they have a better shot with ‘Wonder Woman’ – being the most superhero-friendly station around town – and they’re probably right.
According to Vulture, Warner Bros and the CW are working on a Wonder Woman origins series called “Amazon”. It, like “Smallville”, would tell the back-story of how Diana became the DC comics crime-fighter and, like the former, which had a ‘no flights, no tights’ rule, ‘Amazon’ would likely never show Diana in her Wonder Woman gear.
Allan Heinberg, a writer on “Grey’s Anatomy” and formerly, “The O.C”, is scripting the pilot episode for the show, suggesting “Amazon” will definitely be a soapie at it’s core.
Wonder Woman is one of a few DC comics characters that Warners has struggled to relaunch. They have toyed with a new movie version for quite some time now, at one stage with Joss Whedon attached, but nobody could ever crack that one; and though Megan Gale was signed to play the role in the “Justice League” movie, the George Miller film was cancelled at the last minute. A new “Justice League” movie is said to be in development as we speak, but it’s not a certainty that Wonder Woman will even be part of it.
