Universal Furious with Vin Diesel!?

It was reported earlier this week that the inevitable “Fast & Furious 8” is chugging towards the starting line… but can’t move into second gear until it finds a director. Franchise alumni James Wan and Justin Lin are both out, due to other commitments (In Wan’s case, he’s also still recovering from the immense undertaking that was “Furious 7” so even if his calendar wasn’t so busy he’d not be interested), and go-to action movie director Jaume Collet-Serra (“Non-Stop”) is also a no go after being approached.

In a post on Facebook, series star and producer Vin Diesel suggests there’s only two options : either he directs or he entices original “Fast and the Furious” director Rob Cohen into returning.

The Hollywood Reporter says Universal isn’t happy with Diesel’s post because they’re not even considering letting Diesel or Cohen take the reigns on the next movie.

It is no secret that my good friend Justin and I have been very intensely discussing the trilogy, as we have dreamed it…

Deadline have thrown couple of other names in the mix : Ericson Core, the director of this Christmas’s “Point Break” remake, and Louis Letterier, director of “The Incredible Hulk” and “Now You See Me”.

Chris Morgan is still at work on the script for the film so they’ve a while to find someone.

The next film is rumoured to be set in New York and is said to include Diesel, Kurt Russell, Jason Statham and Eva Mendes characters.
