Adam Gidwitz’s A Tale Dark Grimm coming to the big screen

The silver-screen adaptation of Adam Gidwitz’s children’s book “A Tale Dark Grimm” has been acquired by FilmNation Entertainment, according to Deadline.com.

Currently in development, the live-action flick will be based on Gidwitz’s frightening and witty stories, that were inspired by some of the more gruesome Grimm’s tales. The story follows the adventures of two unsuspecting children who hold the key to breaking out of the Dark Ages.

Kamala Films’ Marissa McMahon will finance the development and will also produce alongside FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder. The screenplay will be adapted by Jon Gunn, and John W. Mann.
“We have been searching for distinctive source material for our first family project. We found this in Gidwitz’s witty manuscript and look forward to nurturing the project with our partners at Kamala Films,” said Aaron Ryder.

Mann and Gunn are also currently working with Universal and Chernin Entertainment on an updated adapation of “The Nutcracker”, as well as an original animated feature for Skydance. They have also worked on the Seth Rogen-voiced feature Boo U for Dreamworks Animation, and the Mattel-toy inspired feature Magic 8 Ball for Paramount.
