Alan Arkin joins the Dumbo cast

The live-action reboot of “Dumbo” has cast Alan Arkin, reuniting with director Tim Burton once again. Their last film together was “Edward Scissorhands” way back in 1990, playing Winona Ryder’s father. In “Dumbo”, Arkin will play a Wall Street tycoon named J. Griffin Remington, according to Variety.

Arkin was last seen in “Going in Style”, and joins the “Dumbo” cast including Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Michael Keaton, and Danny DeVito, with Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles.

The live-action film follows Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.

It’s unclear at this stage how large a role the Oscar winner will have, but an excellent casting choice nonetheless.
