Ask Clint replaces the section previously known as ‘Moviehole Mailbag‘ (and frequented by the ever-popular ‘Holden’; we hope – or do we? – he makes a return appearance here).

Instead of just offering up huffy-nostriled smart-arse answers, I’ll try and actually come up with some sort of half-intelligent retort or answer for you. Try and stay on the topic of film and entertainment please but if you must, I will accept the odd question regarding hard-to-move grime from shower screens.

Some of the mail I’ve received over the past week.

Clint,
Have you some “Glee” scoop? Or is this the wrong place?
Alexandra

Alexandra,
Yeah, you’ll have more luck over at LetsPuck.com (I have no idea whether that exists or not; five minutes after this post someone will be snapping up the domain)… but I do have something smallish regarding season 3 on the casting side : There will be guest appearances on the show; er, and more interestingly, they’re introducing two new characters Rebecca (Female, 18 and above to play 15/16, beautiful, must have amazing vocal skills and be able to sing all kinds of music) and Marilyn (Female, 18 and above to play high school, Adele meets Susan Boyle, must be a great singer). I’ve already sent in my demo; just a bit worried the casting director isn’t going to be a fun of Dannii Minogue’s This Is It.

Dear Clint,
Are there any current studio rumblings about a new ”Predator” movie? Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger is no longer governor and has returned to acting, this is the perfect time to finally see the return of Dutch after 25 years! Arnold has made enough ”Terminator” movies. The fans want to see him in a true “Predator” sequel!
Chris D

Chris,
I’m everything we won’t be hearing anything in terms of Schwarzenegger’s film roles for quite a while. The ones he was set to do – before the recent scandal – have either been put on pause (“Cry Macho”), recast (Sylvester Stallone is now doing “The Last Stand”), or reworked (rumour has it “Terminator 5” will include – if any – far less Arnie). There was talk of a new “Predator” movie there for a while, and one with Schwarzenegger reprising his role as ‘Dutch’, but like the hot weather that seems to have gone away. I remember reading a spec a few years ago for a new “Predator” movie, one with ‘Dutch’ front and center, called ‘Deadlier of the Species’ and it was terrific – mainly because it flipped the events of the original movie and had a drastic change of locale, in this case, the Snow. Sam Park, the writer of the piece, told us “This was another attempt on our part to do something the fans would love and even the larger film audiences would embrace as familiar but with a new and exciting spin on the concept. Joel Silver’s assistant, Reggie Hunter, did his part and got this treatment into Silver who told him it was great but… he no longer was working with Fox on this franchise (and now strictly a Warner Brothers team player) and so, nothing came of it”. I like that idea… the snow, a grizzled-old Dutch, red laser on white.

In your next ask Clint section. Can you give an update on Lethal Weapon 5? Any chance they kill the reboot idea and bring back the original cast??? I am sure I am one of the few that would actually like to see a LW5 but figured I would ask anyway. Thanks
Mike

Mike,
One could only hope (No dude, you’re not the only one who would like to see the ‘original’ Martin Riggs and Roger Martaugh back on the beat in that beaten-up old family wagon; I would sell my empty coffee cup collection to see a “Lethal Weapon” that doesn’t star Channing Tatum as Riggs); thing is man, Mel Gibson still has many desterstors over there in Hollyweird and as a result he can’t use his name to get a good seat at Burger King let alone kill a project. Even if he is interested in doing a bonafide hit like “Lethal Weapon 5”, Warners probably aren’t that keen on having him do it. The only good news is, I guess, is that there hasn’t been a peep out of that “Lethal Weapon” reboot since it was initially announced; that could either be because the project has been canned (maybe Joel Silver reads the imdb forums!?) or the screenwriter is still working out where to put the lavish all-teen musical number.

Any updates on the big screen remake of Stephen King’s It? Looking forward to seeing how they get that giant masterpiece into a 2 hour movie.
Joe from Middletown, NJ

Hey Joe,
I believe that’s still in development, pal but I like where writer is going with it. In a recent interview, the man charged with the task of resurrecting Pennywise writer David Kajganich says despite having less time to tell this particular story it won’t skim on details. ”I’m finding as many ways as I can to make certain scenes redundant by deepening and doubling others. To me, this is an interesting process because it has the effect of thematically intensifying the whole, but it can lead to dramatic surprises. Certain scenes I thought would be crucial to the coherence of the whole ended up cut, while other scenes, which were somewhat cursory in the book, ended up being pivotal in the script. I know I’m being vague, but there’s not a lot I can tell you at this point about the specifics, since we’re still very much in development on it. I’ll just say for now that we’re really swinging for the fences.”

Clint,
is it likely that Sarah Michelle Gellar will have a cameo in the “Buffy” movie reboot?
Ms Salivat430

Ms Salivat430,
Firstly, Have you escaped from the game world? Secondly, I’d be keen to grab a ‘byte’ sometime if so, and finally, I doubt very much Sarah Michelle Gellar will cameo in the film – in fact, I’m certain of it. Unlike Kristy Swanson (the star of the original 1992 “Buffy” movie), who is all for a revamp of the franchise, Gellar’s said she’s not supporting a Whedon-less “Buffy” movie. Now if you’d asked me whether Swanson might cameo in the film? I’d say, quite possibly – aside from her flagflying of the project the lovely Buffy 1.0 is buddies with one Whit Anderson, the same Whit Anderson that’s writing the “Buffy” movie.

Clint,
did you hear Jim Carrey said there might be a “Dumb & Dumber” sequel?
Rog

Rog,
Yes I did. It’s kinda old news mate, but good to hear Carrey’s up for it. Bobby Farelly told us earlier in the year regarding that one, “If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.”

Guys,
great job on “The Hunger Games” fact-file thing… I’m new to that world and I got to say, it sounds much more impressive a movie than I initially thought.
Craig Grettin

Craig,
Credit to Ashy for coming up with the article. I’m guessing – it’s only a guess, I don’t know – we’ll be hearing a bit more on this “Hunger Games” movie in the future.

Hey Moviehole,
What’s this about a new Planet of the Apes? Are they computer-generating Charlton Heston into it? What’s the deal?
Eddie

Eddie,
No Heston, but they are superimposing Roddy McDowell’s face onto the body of bodybuilder Roland Kickingers. In all seriousness I assume you’re referring to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”? It’s a prequel to the original movie with James Franco as the man that kicks off all the monkey business. As a big fan of those “Apes” movies I only hope it doesn’t blow like a toothless twenty-buck hooker but the anointment of Franco, John Lithgow and the irreplaceable Brian Cox to it’s cast suggest it might be decent. Here’s the trailer :

When will Jaws be on Blu-ray?
Chris Barne

Chris,
It’s coming; Steven Spielberg said this week that it’s on the way (so I’m guessing later this year) but he’s not touching it up at all. Spielberg, and much love to the man for taking this stand, said he’s not going to be digitally restoring or adding or subtracting scenes from any of his films from here on forward. In otherwords, rumours of Nicholas Rowe being wiped out of “Young Sherlock Holmes” and replaced by Shia LaBeouf for the Blu-ray have been greatly exaggerated.

This site seems be run by chicks lately, Where have you been Clint? Where?
Paul

Paul,
With ya’ momma.

I can’t think of anything to ask so I’ll just ask ‘boxers or briefs’?
Mick

Mick,
Ask Paul’s momma.

When do you think it’ll be that we see some official stills from “American Reunion”, preferrably with Jim and the Pie?
Hooze

Hooze,
You need a girlfriend, sir. But to hold you over, ‘Biggsy’ recently tweeted a couple of pictures from the set :
