Australian actress DeJonge to play Priscilla Presley

Olivia DeJonge (“The Visit”, “Better Watch Out”) will play Priscilla Presley in director Baz Luhrmann’s biopic on the King.

The Australian actress will star opposite Austin Butler in the WB pic, recreating a love affair that kicked off when young Priscilla Ann Wagner was just 14 and the musician was 24. She lived with Elvis as early as 1963 at Graceland with Presley promising Priscilla’s parents that he’d marry her. At one point when rumors broke about Elvis’ affairs, Priscilla’s father threatened to have Elvis charged under the Mann Act which entailed “taking a minor across state lines for sexual purposes.” Lisa Marie was their only daughter, and the couple divorced in 1972.

Luhrmann, who will shoot the film in Queensland, stated, “Olivia is capable of manifesting the complex depth and presence that has made Priscilla Presley an icon in her own right. She’s an extremely talented young actor and the perfect counterpoint to Austin’s Elvis.”

The untitled film will fix on Presley’s growth from dirt poor singer to global icon, as well as cover his relationship with manager Colonel Tom Parker. The story is said to be set over a 20 year-span.

Tom Hanks plays Presley’s manager Colonel Tom Parker.

The film, which Luhramnn wrote with Craig Pearce, will shoot early next year.
