Bernthal the new Punisher

Grady "Coon-Ass" Travis (Jon Bernthal) in Columbia Pictures' FURY.

Busy bee Jon Bernthal (“The Pacific”, “The Walking Dead”, “Fury”) has been cast as the screen’s latest incarnation of charcoal-clothed comic-book vigilante Frank Castle.

Bernthal, who succeeds Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, and Ray Stevenson, makes his debut as The Punisher in season 2 of Marvel’s “Daredevil”.

The actor is likely best known for his role on the first couple of seasons of AMC’s “The Walking Dead”.

In the second season of Netflix’s high-clicked series, Bernthal’s Castle tries to clean up Hell’s Kitchen – of it’s many rogues – by any means necessary. He’ll undoubtedly have a run-in with fellow crime-fighter Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), whose methods obviously differ.

Other characters from the world of the comics expected to make their TV debut on the show next year include Elektra and Bullseye.

The rights to the comic-book character reverted back to Marvel several years ago, not long after the failure of bigscreen venture “The Punisher : War Zone”.
