Big Little Lies returning for season 2

“Big Little Lies” proved itself to be such a success story for its first season, that it’s coming back for a second go.

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will be returning as cast as well as producers, but the big change comes in the form of the director. Jean-Marc Vallée directed the seven episodes in season 1, while Andrea Arnold will take over for season 2.

Witherspoon commented on the next season as well as the change in director:

“It gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the lives of these intriguing and intricate Monterey families and bring more of their stories back to the audience who embraced and championed them. I’m beyond excited to be working with talented and acclaimed director Andrea Arnold who will be at the helm. Andrea’s unique storytelling style will be a welcome addition to the filmmaking team.”

Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård and Adam Scott all co-starred in the first season, and most of the cast are expected to return – per the report from EW. Australian author Liane Moriarty penned the novel that the series was based on, but a new storyline will have to be developed for the second season.
