Bill Murray on his Ghostbusters cameo

Bill Murray

For years, he swore black and blue that he wouldn’t partake in another “Ghostbusters” movie. But everyone can change their mind over time. And that’s ostensibly what Bill Murray did when he answered director Paul Feig’s call to appear in the 2016 reboot of the ’80s classic.

The appeal for Murray though wasn’t that he’d be playing Peter Venkman again (he’s not; he’s playing a Ghost-debunker) but rather a new character.. one that gets, assumingly,a relatively brief amount of screen time.

Murray tells Vulture that he did largely agreed to cameo in the movie because he’s a fan of the ladies starring in it.

“I like those girls a lot, I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow… They were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow them or anything, and I feel really good about it.

I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really… It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval on my part.”

Murray worked with “Ghostbusters” actress Melissa McCarthy on “St. Vincent”.
