Blumhouse rebooting Firestarter with Baywatch star

Zac Efron will star in the next feature adaptation of Stephen King’s “Firestarter”.

Per Deadline, the Universal/Blumhouse/Weed Road Productions redo will be directed by Keith Thomas (”The Vigil”) and produced by Jason Blum and Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman. Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the 1984 adaptation will executive produce.

No details on the plot of Scott Teems’ script, though it likely follows the same storyline as the Drew Barrymore-starrer and the original source material. “Firestarter” follows a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.
