Catching Fire updates : Pulp Fiction‘s Amanda Plummer cast; Claflin, Leo, Shalhoub rumoured

Amanda Plummer is the first to join “Catching Fire” as one of the famed Victor Tributes, Lionsgate announced this morning.

Cast as District 3 victor, Wiress, Plummer (“Pulp Fiction”, “So, I Married an Axe Murderer”) will join Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) as they are thrust back into the Hunger Games arena for a 75th Anniversay Games known as a Quarter Quell.

Wiress is described as being incredibly smart, but also a little batty – fellow Hunger Games victors often call her by the nickname “Nuts”, a homage to District 3’s manufacturing industry and an appraisal of her personality.

Scuttlebutt elsewhere suggests “Once Upon A Time” castie Sam Claflin, former “Monk” Tony Shalhoub and Oscar Winner Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”) are in the mix for flashy roles in the pic too.

Claflin would play Finnick, Leo would be Finnick’s former mentor Mags, and Shaloub is said to be the frontrunner for Beetee, an inventor.

“Catching Fire” will see Katniss, Peeta, Wiress and a whole slew of other past Hunger Games victors thrown back into the arena to battle it out until there is only one left standing. Although some victors are too old or drug-addicted to really compete, like District 4’s Mags, District 3’s Beetee and the morphine-addicted victors from District 6, Katniss and Peeta will still have to face up against recent champions such as Finnick uOdair from District 4 and Johanna Mason from

District 7 as they vie for the crown. And one thing is certain – President Snow (Donald Sutherland) has given new Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) express instructions to ensure that there will be only one winner this year.

”Catching Fire” will start filming later this year, for a November 23, 2013 release.
