Hunger Games director Hook’s Peter Pan prequel

With his adaptation of “The Hunger Games” having catapulted him into the spotlight, The Hollywood Reporter has today announced that Gary Ross is in talks to direct Disney’s “Peter and the Starcatchers”.

Described as a prequel to the original “Peter Pan” story, the film has been adapted from the adventure novel of the same name written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The book was originally turned into an off-Broadway production that was later moved to the main stem and won five Tony awards. Jesse Wigutow is writing the script.

The story follows a younger Peter who befriends a young woman named Molly; a shipmate he meets on the Never Land ship as it is headed to King Zarboff.

Peter and Molly are then led on a journey to recover a mysterious trunk filled with magical , to prevent it from falling into the hands of wicked pirate Black Stache (who will eventually lose his hand and become Captain Hook).
