Claire Foy the new Lisbeth Salander!?

Stepping in for “Dragon Tattoo” lead Rooney Mara

Lacey Bridges

English actress Claire Foy (“The Crown”) is the reported frontrunner to play Lisbeth Salander in the English-language remake of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”.

Sony are keen to sign the up-and-comer to play the role originated by Rooney Mara in David Fincher’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”.

What might keep Foy from the piercing table is a conflict with “The First Man”, the Neil Armstrong biopic that she’s been courted for.

Felicity Jones (“Rogue One : A Star Wars Story”) has also been shortlisted for the Salander role.

With the reappearance of The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) in the season seven finale of Arrow, there’s no doubt that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and Team Arrow will be facing a “crisis” unlike anything they’ve previously faced before. Cast and producers of The CW/Warner Bros. Television’s hit DC series elaborated on what’s in store for the future in Arrow’s final season Comic-Con panel on Saturday, July 20.

Following last season’s introduction of next-gen vigilantes Mia Smoak and Connor Hawke, Comic-Con fans were excited to learn of John Diggle’s other son, John Diggle, Jr., to be played by new series regular Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll). Diggle, Jr. – known as J.J. – is the Flashpoint-born son of John Diggle (David Ramsey) and Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson). We meet J.J. in the future as the leader of the Deathstroke Gang, where he faces off against Mia and his adopted brother, Connor.

Barnett joins previously announced new series regulars Katherine McNamara, Joseph David-Jones and Ben Lewis as Mia Smoak, Connor Hawke and Oliver Queen’s adopted son, William Clayton, respectively.

The Rocketeer

A new comedic, animated adventure series “The Rocketeer” – inspired by Dave Stevens’ beloved superhero comic books and Walt Disney Pictures feature film – follows Kit Secord after she learns she’s secretly next in line to become The Rocketeer, a rocket-pack wearing superhero who can fly. The series will debut on Disney Channel and Disney Junior this fall with actor Billy Campbell, who starred as Cliff Secord in “The Rocketeer” film, as the voice of Dave Secord, Kit’s father. Kathy Najimy (“Hocus Pocus”) will voice Kit’s mother, Sareena Secord, and Kitana Turnbull (“A Series of Unfortunate Events”) stars as Kit. The news was announced today during Disney Television Animation’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con International.

Armed with her cool new gear and secret identity, Kit takes to the skies to protect her town of Hughesville and its residents from danger. Assisting her on her heroic adventures are her best friend Tesh, bulldog sidekick Butch, and airplane mechanic grandfather, Ambrose Secord.

Of joining the cast, Campbell said “This is my first voice-acting job ever and I’m thrilled that it’s for ‘The Rocketeer.’ This has been a really nice full-circle moment for me and I’m looking forward to introducing a new generation of kids, including my own, to the Rocketeer’s stories.”

Additional casting announced today includes legendary voice actor Frank Welker (“Scooby-Doo”) as Grandpa Ambrose and Butch the bulldog; Callan Farris (Disney Channel’s upcoming “Gabby Duran & The Unsittables”) as Kit’s best friend, Tesh; and Navia Robinson (Disney Channel’s “Raven’s Home”) as Kit’s flight school classmate, Valerie Valkyrie. Voicing the recurring comedic villains in the series are Maria Bamford (“Arrested Development”) and Kari Wahlgren (“DC Superhero Girls”) as sister team, Laura and Harley; Maurice LaMarche (“Futurama”) as Sylvester Slapdash; Charlie Adler (“The Transformers” franchise) and Parvesh Cheena (Disney Junior’s upcoming “Mira, Royal Detective”) as The Great Orsino and Deany, respectively; and celebrity chef Ted Allen (“Chopped”) as Cast-Iron Chef.

Comic-Con : Kevin Smith says Clerks 3 is back on!

Smith determined to patch things up with Jeff Anderson

Caffeinated Clint

While he admits his new film “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” is the perfect bow and conclusion to all the films in the View Askew universe, writer-director Kevin Smith says there’s one film in the category he does have further plans for.

“‘I’m going to make Clerks 3”, Smith declared tonight at his annual Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con. “I don’t know if it will be my next film but I will make it.”

The filmmaker had planned to make “Clerks 3” a while back but plans for the film were abandoned after Smith fell out with star Jeff Anderson, who plays Randal.

That version of the film was a much darker take; Smith will start from scratch. And yes, he is determined to get Anderson back.

“When I wrote it, I wrote it during a weirder darker point in my life, and it’s kind of like the King Lear of our movies. I love it, it’s one of my favorite scripts, but it’s dark. It’s bleak, and it’s not what Dante and Randal deserve. We’re never going to make that version, but I’m going to write a different Clerks 3 and we’re going to make that fucking film, I promise. And in a world where we got to bring Ben [Affleck] back, I’ll be able to bring Jeff back.”

Smith revealed that he and Jason Mewes would definitely reprise Jay and Silent Bob for the film.

Smith also revealed plans for further animated “Clerks” adventures. New episodes of the series could be produced as early as this year.

Comic-Con : Marvel panel wrap-up

All the upcoming films and series’ for Marvel – direct to you from San Diego!

K.T Simpson

My back aches, my legs are killing me, my phone died many times throughout the day trying to live tweet these panels but I am DONE. That is a wrap on Comic-Con 2019 for me!

The biggest event for the day (or arguably the whole SDCC in general) was the Marvel panel in Hall H. People camped out for days to get up and close to the action, and were not disappointed – Marvel certainly know how to put on a show!

Kevin Feige was on board to officially declare The Infinity Saga done, and the beginning of Phase 4. Let’s put this into perspective – what was announced today was just the next 2 years of Marvel – as Kevin Smith later declared: “I have so much to live for!”

So let’s wrap up all the action for the day.

“Eternals” will arrive November 6th, 2020 and has a massive line-up of stars, including Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh and Angelina Jolie as Thena. Chloé Zhao will direct.

Fall 2020 will see “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” reunite Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka The Falcon, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter soldier. It’s a series that will appear on Disney+, making even more of a hot property! At the end, Daniel Brühl was revealed to return as the villain, Baron Zemo.

February 12, 2021 will see “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” be released. The big announcements were Simu Liu in the title role of Shang-Chi, and the Mandarin – to be played by Tony Leung. Awkwafina has also been cast in an unknown role. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct.

In Spring 2021 two of our favourites will unite for another Disney+ series – “Wanda Vision”. Elizabeth Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Paul Bettany is back as Vision. Both actors appeared on stage to chat about the series, which was confirmed to take place after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”.

Another exciting series for Disney+ is “Loki”, with Tom Hiddleston back in the titular role. But didn’t Loki die in “Endgame”? – Or did he…remember when he picked up the space stone and disappeared? Where he went – well that will all be explained in “Loki”. The series will begin in Spring of 2021.

Get ready for 7th May, 2021, when you’ll get the second film in the “Doctor Strange” series! Titled “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, it will star Benedict Cumberbatch back as the Doctor and directed by Scott Derrickson. Elizabeth Olsen will also star as Scarlet Witch, and the feature film will directly link to the Disney+ series “Wanda Vision”. Derrickson also announced “we want to make the first scary MCU film” – so sounds to be a lot darker than the typical Marvel tone!

An exciting announcement was the very first animated MCU series: “What If…?”. The series will feature stories that present alternate realities in the Marvel universe. Feige mentioned that many actors from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe will reprise their roles as voice talent in the series. Jeffrey Wright appeared on stage with the announcement that he will voice the narrator for the series – The Watcher. Check it out on Disney+ from the summer of 2021.

Another event series is “Hawkeye”, with Jeremy Renner. Kate Bishop, a character well-known in Marvel comics, will be an integral part of the series. The series will also be on Disney+ in the fall of 2021.

The most popular part of the panel was perhaps the official announcement of the title for “Thor 4” – “Thor: Love and Thunder”. Director Taika Waititi, Thor himself Chris Hemsworth and Valkyrie actress Tessa Thompson all appeared on stage, before the big announcement in the female Thor was announced – Natalie Portman! November 5, 2021 is the official release date.

The next film on Marvel’s agenda is “Black Widow”, which is filming at the moment, before its release on May 1, 2020. Audiences were treated to some early footage – and I mean super early, it’s only been filming for a month – and it looks kick. ass. Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh are just incredible. Johansson is back as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, alongside newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: David Harbour as Alexei aka The Red Guardian, Pugh as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina.

Just when you think you can’t handle any more Marvel news, “Blade” gets dropped on us. Feige announced Mahershala Ali as the star of the upcoming flick.

On top of all this, we can expect a “Fantastic Four” reboot, “Captain Marvel 2”, “Black Panther 2” and “Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3”.

I’m spent!

See the final timeline for Phase 4 below:
