Producer J.J Abrams paid tribute to fallen star Anton Yelchin ahead of tonight’s premiere of “Star Trek Beyond” at San Diego Comic Con.
At the outside spectacular, Abrams said they’d lost a family member – a tragedy that had somewhat put a damper on 50th birthday celebrations for the brand. The prolific filmmaker and producer then asked the audience to commit to a minute’s silence in memory of Yelchin.
Later, star Zachary Quinto paid tribute to his Vulcan predecessor, the late Leonard Nimoy. “Here’s to Leonard”, Quinto said as he threw to the latest film in the series.
“Star Trek Beyond” opens this week.
