Could there be a sequel to The Andromeda Strain?

Yes, there will be – but it’ll premiere on your Kindle before it’s even considered for the mulitplex.

A sequel to Michael Crichton’s breakthrough novel “The Andromeda Strain”, celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year, has been given the thumbs up by the late author’s literary archive and production company.

HarperCollins will release “The Andremeda Evolution”, a collaboration between author Daniel H.Wilson and CrichtonSun LLC, on November 12.

“It’s exciting to be shining a spotlight on the world that Michael so brilliantly created and to collaborate with Daniel Wilson,” Sherri Crichton, CEO of CrichtonSun, said in a statement. “This novel is for Crichton fans; it’s a celebration of Michael’s universe and a way to introduce him to new generations, and to those discovering his worlds for the first time.”

Like his books “Jurassic Park” and “Rising Sun”, “The Andromeda Strain” was also a hit film (and later, mini-series). Directed by Robert Wise, the 1971 film told of a crack team of top scientists work feverishly in a secret, state-of-the-art laboratory to discover what has killed the citizens of a small town and learn how this deadly contagion can be stopped.

It’s quite likely that the rights to the book will be snapped up fairly quickly by Hollywood, with a film to follow soon thereafter, so those that prefer to watch over read, stay tuned..
