David Dastmalchian to play Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad 2

“Ant-Man” actor David Dastmalchian is the latest to join James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad” sequel, with the actor set to play Polka-Dot Man. This just begs the question – who is Polka-Dot Man?!

Per the Hollywood Reporter: Polka-Dot Man debuted in 1962’s Detective Comics No. 300. Abner Krill was a low-level crook who tried to make a name for himself with spot-themed crimes and a costume that included some amazing gimmicks, such as spots that transformed into buzzsaws and flying saucers on command. Gunn has shown an affinity for pretty obscure comic characters — this one has appeared less than a dozen times since his creation — and the character is said to lean into his embarrassment of his “lame” abilities.

Dastmalchian joins cast members Margot Robbie, who is returning as villain-turned-sometime heroine Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney, back as Captain Boomerang, and Idris Elba, who was initially taking on the role of Deadshot, but a script change has turned his role into something yet undisclosed.

Gunn is writing and directing the follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 “Suicide Squad”, but has previously noted it won’t be a direct sequel but rather introduce new characters and mix them with the old in more of a reboot follow-up. New characters include DC villains such as Ratcatcher, Peacemaker, King Shark (a humanoid shark – no kidding) and Polka-Dot Man.
