Doug Liman’s next to feature two future pop culture icons

New ‘Spidey’ Tom Holland looks to join “Star Wars”‘ Daisy Ridley in Doug Liman’s new film “Chaos Walking”.

The film is some post-apocalyptic thing, based on a YA novel (aren’t they all!?), set in a world where – and I quote THR – all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another’s thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise.

Guessing by casting Holland and Ridley, Liman is safeguarding himself against the possibility that audiences are still only lukewarm for more YA film adaptations – as seemed to be the case last year with the disappointing performance of “The Gift” and “The Fifth Wave”. Charlie Kaufman is listed as one of the screenwriters so at least the film’s guaranteed to be very watchable.

Holland’s character is said to be a boy who flees town with his dog and comes upon a strange girl played by “Force Awakens” heroine Ridley.

Holland’s next flick is “Spider-Man : Homecoming”, playing the sticky-fingered boy (sorry, that doesn’t sound fit for print!) himself, while Ridley recently completed filming “Star Wars Episode 8 : Enough with the Roman Numerals”. Liman, best known for his work on actioners like “Bourne Identity” and “Edge of Tomorrow”, helmed Tom Cruise’s “Mena” in recent months; that’s out soon.
