Freaks & Geeks star to co-direct Vacation reboot

That long-gestating reboot of National Lampoon’s “Vacation”- which has been in the works at New Line for a couple of years now; all the while ‘Vacation’ star Chevy Chase has been trying to talk the studio into making a sequel to the 1984 hit that he’s written himself – is inching a GPS spot closer to Wally World.

The Hollywood Reporter says (“Freaks & Geeks” star) John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, wordsmiths of “Horrible Bosses” and the upcoming “Burt Wonderstone”, will likely direct their script for the remake-sequel they penned in 2009. David Dobkin was originally onboard to direct but is no longer involved.

The new “Vacation” will, much like “Tron Legacy” and even the upcoming “21 Jump Street”, be a part reboot, part sequel. In the film, Clark Griswold’s now grown-up son Rusty goes on a madcap holiday with his family.

Chase and Beverly D’Angelo’s characters, Clark and Ellen Griswold, have apparently been written into the script but the former’s ‘It’s Clark starring… or nothing’ stance suggests we may get the first “Vacation” without Chevy Chase.

If Daley and Goldstein plan on casting someone they’ve worked with before on “Vacation”, I guess it’s safe to assume the names ‘Jason Bateman’, ‘Charlie Day’, ‘Jason Sudeikis’, ‘Jay Mohr’ and ‘Will Forte’ may have already been mentioned as possible Rusty’s (Gotta say, I like the idea of Sudeikis!).
